ETIO MEDICINE

"Etiomedicine is a theoretical and therapeutic tool that allows one to trace back to the origin of diseases"

Jean-Louis Brinette

Understanding what the body is trying to express

Sometimes a symptom persists or comes back, without us always understanding why.
Sometimes certain situations, emotions, or behaviors repeat themselves despite our will
to move past them.
Etiomedicine suggests exploring what is happening behind these manifestations,
considering the person as a whole: their body, their emotions, their history,
and their unique way of reacting to life events.

What is etiomedicine?

Etiomedicine is a therapeutic approach developed by Dr. Jean-Louis Brinette in the early 1990s.

It focuses on the connections that exist between the body, emotions, and a
person’s experiences.
Rather than concentrating solely on the manifestation of a symptom,
it seeks to understand what might contribute to its onset or persistence.

Some experiences, events, or emotions can be difficult to process at the time we live them.
They can then continue to influence, sometimes unconsciously, the way we feel, react, or adapt.

Etiomedicine proposes exploring these links, notably using pulse-taking and stimulation
of reflex points on the ear, following the work of Dr. Paul Nogier.

These realizations can help a person look differently at what they are going through and
gradually regain their capacity to adapt.

How does a session go?

A session starts with a time to chat about what brings you here.

The work then continues based on the body's reactions (through pulse taking and stimulation of different reflex points), which help guide the conversation and explore situations or emotions that might be connected to what you're feeling today.

It's not an intellectual analysis of your history. The body acts as a guide, while the dialogue helps put words to things, make connections, and sometimes understand an experience that has been hard to grasp in a new way.

Each session is different because it adapts to the person, their story, and what comes up during the consultation.

For what reasons should you consult?

Etiomedicine can be considered when you have recurring or persistent physical symptoms, periods of stress or tension, emotional difficulties, reactions you don’t always understand, or situations and patterns that seem to repeat.

It can also support times of change, separation, grief, or more generally moments in life when you feel the need to understand what’s affecting you and regain a sense of stability.

Consultation does not replace a medical diagnosis or treatment. When a physical symptom appears, persists, or worsens, getting medical advice is still essential.
